Ninety percent of the tropical/coldwater fish we carry in our store are acquired from one source,

Their expertise in fish husbandry is unsurpassed, delivering quality fish at affordable prices. The photos that can be viewed in our freshwater data base have been used with the kind permission of Aquarium Industries , taken from their extensive photo library,

The most commonly asked question we get at the shop is what fish goes with what.

By researching your choices, you can eliminate a lot of your problems.
Picking the right mix at the very start, eliminates 80% of your problems. If you are new to the hobby, find the fish that you must have, then start finding out about what water parameters they prefer and what other fish are going to do best with them. Usually people will try and have the lollie shop in their tanks,1 of this 2 of that 3 of them….. or they will try and put the stock load carried by the Murray river in their 100ltr tank !

Community Tropical fish are mainly broken up into 4 different zones, Asian, African, Sth.American, and Miscellaneous. Once we break it down into these zones, it becomes a lot easier to find which mix of fish can survive together.

We have had people put African cichlids in with their tetras, and then ask
“Why are my tetras dying?, it must be the fish you sold me!!”
The reasons why they have died are:

They should have said what they had, but they could not remember what they had. (always write down what type of fish you have in your tank)

  • Wrong water parameters i.e. temperature, p.h., general hardness.
  • The cichlids would have harassed them ripping fins and eventually eating them .
  • There are some great clubs you can join such as EDAS (Eastern Districts Aquarium Society) not only for knowledge but great social events and shows.
